Travel calendar

Fares and seats get tighter around a few predictable periods. We don’t publish estimated dates — here is where the official ones are announced.

These are calendar months, not price predictions or availability. The flight form will ask for exact dates before searching with the partner.

Hajj and Umrah

Hajj takes place on fixed days of the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah, so its dates move about eleven days earlier each year in the Gregorian calendar. Flights to Jeddah and Madinah are busy for several weeks around it. Dates and arrangements are announced by Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah and by your country’s national Hajj body. Ramadan and Eid

Travel home for Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha raises demand on family routes. Eid dates depend on the sighting of the moon and are confirmed by religious authorities shortly beforehand.

Year-end and school holidays

December and January are peak months for family visits between Africa and the UK, Europe and North America, and for holidays in southern Africa. School holiday dates are published by each country’s education department.

Changes to entry systems

New entry systems can change what you need before you fly — for example the EU’s planned ETIAS travel authorisation for visitors who don’t need a Schengen visa. Whether it concerns you depends on your passport; check the official EU page for who is affected and from when.
